$80M Rose Bowl Renovation in Planning Stages Ahead of 2028 Olympics

Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation

The operator of Pasadena's Rose Bowl, in collaboration with its non-profit partner, the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation, has announced an $80-million renovation plan for the historic stadium in preparation for the 2028 Summer Olympics, where it will host soccer matches.

Planned Upgrades:

  • A new field-level club in the south end zone.

  • Improved bowl seating.

  • A new video board, which will be one of the largest in the country.

  • Other key infrastructure improvements.

“Thanks to the leadership of the Rose Bowl Operating Company Board of Directors and due to the tireless efforts of the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation Board and Advisory Boards, the Rose Bowl Stadium has never been better positioned to thrive. These investments will help ensure that we remain one of the most dynamic football, soccer, concert and festival venues in the world,” said Rose Bowl Operating Company chief executive officer Jens Weiden. “The silent fundraising phase of the campaign was outstanding and thanks to the incredibly generous donors to Legacy, and key commitments from our Stadium partners, six of the eight projects are already fully funded or completed.”

Timeline:

Renovations will take place in two phases:

  • Phase 1 (by 2026): Includes infrastructure upgrades and the south end zone field club.

  • Phase 2 (before the Olympics): Includes bowl seating enhancements and installation of the new video board.

Additionally, several upgrades have already been completed in anticipation of UCLA’s move to the Big Ten, such as:

  • Refurbishment of the Rose Bowl marquee sign.

  • Safe standing sections on the east side.

  • A new sound system.

While the planned improvements are modest compared to USC’s $315 million renovation of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, they aim to preserve the Rose Bowl’s legacy while modernizing it for future events.
