AECOM Selected to Manage $1.5 Billion Renovation of Sea-Tac Airport Concourse.
Led by AECOM, ongoing construction projects at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport continue to progress, with a focus on upgrading various aspects of the facility. A $1.5 billion effort is underway to modernize the S Concourse supported by a $35 million contract from the Port of Seattle for program management.
“SEA has been one of the fastest growing airports for a decade, mirroring the growth happening in the region,” Lance Lyttle, SEA managing director, says in a statement. “During peak periods our terminal is stretched to its max, making it a challenge to deliver the efficient, predictable experience that passengers deserve. To hit our efficiency and customer service goals we need to build up, modernize where we can and introduce new technology.”
The project includes structural enhancements, seismic updates, operational efficiencies, and improved amenities to ensure the facility's functionality for the next 50 years. . Notable aspects involve repurposing spaces for duty-free shopping and dining, optimizing circulation, and expanding premium lounge areas.
Currently in the design phase, S Concourse construction is set to begin this year, with completion anticipated by 2031. Additional projects, including a $4.6 billion investment, are planned to modernize various other airport areas in the coming years.
Seattle is seeing a boom in construction spending in regards to transportation as well as housing, tech, and green infrastructure. This comes at a critical point, where for years infrastructure construction and funding has fallen behind population growth and economic expansion.
