California Ports Getting $5 Billion Upgrade

California Ports will receive a much-needed infusion of cash to improve functionality. The ports have been clogged due to pandemic-related obstacles and heightened consumer demand.


California Gov. Gavin Newsom and U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg announced a partnership last week that aims to prevent future congestion problems like the ones currently plaguing California and leading to supply issues.


“Today’s announcement marks an innovative partnership with California that will help modernize our infrastructure, confront climate change, speed the movement of goods, and grow our economy,” Buttigieg said in a statement.


The funding will come from the U.S. Department of Transportation as well as from state funds and public-private sources.
