Construction Goes Skyward on Hollywood Burbank Airport Terminal Replacement
A pair of red tower cranes demonstrate visible progress on Hollywood Burbank Airport's $1.3B replacement terminal.
The project, which broke ground in early 2024, is taking shape in the airport's northeast section. The plans outline a 355,000-square-foot terminal with 14 passenger gates, retail and dining options, an automated ticketing lobby, a TSA checkpoint, and a new baggage claim area.
The new terminal will adhere to current seismic codes and ADA standards, replacing facilities from the late 1920s. Notably, it will retain stair access to aircraft rather than jet bridges, while meeting modern requirements for runway proximity and safety.
The design-build team—comprising Corgan, Holder, Pankow, TEC, CannonDesign, and Burns & McDonnell—has envisioned a building with a sleek roof canopy that transitions into the airport’s parking structure. The design has been characterized as evoking a "silver screen in a public plaza," with elements nodding to Mid-Century Modern architecture.
The project is set for completion in 2026
