National City First in San Diego County to Embrace PLA
National City officials unanimously voted to support a project labor agreement with the San Diego Building and Trades Council. The organization represents over 30,000 union construction workers throughout San Diego County.
This marks South County as the first San Diego community to officially welcome the pro-union construction deals.
“We made history tonight in National City by being the first city in the county to take this step to ensure that our public works projects provide the greatest level of return to our taxpayers and residents,” Mayor Alejandra Sotelo-Solis said following the vote.
Sotelo-Solis expects the agreement to pertain to all of National City's major public works projects. It is anticipated that a PLA will mean apprenticeship opportunities, good pay, workplace protections, and that local hires will be prioritized,
