Shoddy Construction, Subpar Materials Contributing Factors in Hilton Hotel Fire in Camarillo
A fire that leveled an enclosed wood frame construction project in Ventura County was fueled by cheap construction materials coupled with the degraded condition of the structure. Also, fire suppression systems had not yet been installed according to Captain Brian McGrath of the Ventura County Fire Dept.
It is believed that the blaze started on the third level of the four story framework but no initial cause of the fire has been determined. Once the fire began however, it quickly engulfed the entire structure.
“The wood-frame building had been under construction for some time so that wood had been exposed to the outside elements that entire time,” Mcgrath said.
Fortunately, there were no crews on site at the time and no injuries reported. The 122-room Home2 Suites by Hilton hotel was set to open later this year.
